“sticker sounds” by Claire Hentschker, (2015)

For this project, I made a set of stickers that can be arranged and pasted in public locations to leave behind a unique musical sound for someone else. The images on these stickers are drawings by Ernst Haeckel, from his book “Art Forms in Nature.” Much to my excitement, fractals and nuances in natural form function wonderfully as image targets, so I built an application that assigns each sticker to an instrumental sound. The predominately white stickers are piano keys, the longer thiner shapes are percussion, the greener stickers are guitar notes, and the redder stickers are drums beats. The stickers can be arranged in any way, and when they are viewed in a progression, or all at once through the application’s camera, the composition is played back.
