Assignment 2: Comfort

For this assignment I drew inspiration from a fable I remember fondly from my youth, Aesop’s  ‘The Lion and the Mouse’. In this fable, a mouse proves he is more worthy than he appears by chewing a lion free from a rope trap.

This piece deals  with the alarming sense of comfort that people have when passing judgement on the worth of others. This is something that we do often and with little thought. But despite it being a common action, it seems that it should invoke discomfort in the one passing judgement. Unfortunately, when the opposite happens, people can be discredited for their talents and assumed to be of worth less than they are, as shown in ‘The Lion and the Mouse’ and this piece.
